DIGITAL DATA
Notice to Mariners (NTM) from USCG, NGA, and CHS
It is understood the pilot house of a vessel is compact. Therefore
storing
paper copies of NTMs can be quite difficult. To reduce the
impact OCS provides a Compact Disk with digital copies of all NTMs
(USCG, NGA & CHS) for a 13 month period.
Digital Chart Updates from NOAA (BSB and S57 formats)
OCS can also provide updates to digital NOAA charts that make use
of either the BSB raster or S57 vector formats in electronic navigation systems.
NEW CHART ORDERS
While the main focus for our company is to provide the updates to charts,
Light Lists and Piloting Guides, we do offer new chart sales and replacements to our customers.
While we neither stock charts nor print them ourselves, we work in conjunction with a company who
provides this service. What OCS offers is a single point of contact for all chart inventories,
replacements and updates.
Standing Order for New Editions
About 1/3 of our customers are on what is called a "standing order" basis for charts.
This means that we have provided Maryland Nautical with each vessels chart inventory, and whenever a new
chart edition is released, this new chart is automatically printed and sent to the vessel.
Individual charts need not be ordered. This process can occur with either the lithographic charts or
the Print-On-Demand charts.
Individual Chart Replacements
Charts can be either the traditional lithographic type or the newer Print-
On-Demand. If you are not familiar with the Print-On-Demand, these
charts are printed with all of the corrections in
place at the time the chart
is ordered. This makes them ideal for worn charts that need replacement.
Also, from the day that a new chart edition is released by NOAA, it is available via Print-On-Demand,
but generally it takes 6 to 8 weeks before the lithographic version is available.
